Once Foundation

The ONCE Foundation for the Cooperation and Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities was born in February 1988, by agreement of the General Council of ONCE, and presented to the society in September of that same year as an instrument of cooperation and solidarity of the Spanish blind towards other groups of people with disabilities to improve their living conditions.

In addition to ONCE, as a founding entity, the main organizations of persons with disabilities in Spain are present at the ONCE Foundation, through its Board of Trustees, the highest governing body.

CERMI (Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities), a platform that groups the main organizations of people with disabilities in Spain, many of them of an autonomous nature, is also part of the ONCE Foundation's Board of Trustees. 3,000 associations and entities, representing the 3.8 million people with disabilities and their families that exist in our country.

The mission of the ONCE Foundation is to contribute to the full social inclusion of persons with disabilities, contributing to the realization of the principle of equal opportunities and non-discrimination.

University of Eastern Finland

The University of Eastern Finland is the most multidisciplinary university in Finland. Our high standard of interdisciplinary research and education respond to global challenges and build a sustainable future. Our research is ranked among the best in the world in several fields. We offer education in nearly 100 major subjects and we train experts for tomorrow’s changing labour market needs.

The University of Eastern Finland was established in 2010, following a decision by the University of Joensuu (est. 1969) and the University of Kuopio (est. 1972) to join forces in a merger. The university comprises four faculties: the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. Our campuses are located in Joensuu and Kuopio.

We have extensive international relations and are involved in several international networks. Our teaching and research staff and students are active in participating in various mobility programmes. We have concluded bilateral agreements of cooperation with approximately 100 universities abroad.

University of Trieste (Italy)

The University of Trieste, founded in 1924, is a medium-sized academy, boasting a wide and almost complete range of degree courses. It is currently organized in 10 departments (Economic, Business, Mathematical and Statistical Sciences; Engineering and Architecture; Humanities; Legal, Language, Interpreting and Translation Studies; Mathematics and Earth sciences; Medicine, Surgery and Health Sciences; Life Sciences; Pharmaceutical and Chemical Sciences; Physics; Political and Social Sciences); 41 Bachelor degree programmes; 44 Master degree programmes; 4 Single-cycle degree programmes;34 Doctoral schools and programmes; 3 Post-graduate courses; 11 Short master programmes and 29 Specialization Schools. The present number of students enrolled at the University is approx. 21,000.

The University of Trieste is deeply involved in the development of various international activities. The role played within the strategic international networks and scientific projects, at both European and international levels, confirms its historical international vocation. This cultural institution also plays a crucial role as a bridge between eastern and western European cultures.

Lublin University of Technology (Poland)

Lublin University of Technology (LUT) is a major education center and an advisory unit in the city of Lublin, capital of Lublin Province, located in south eastern part of Poland. The university actively participates in social and economic life, thus playing an important role in integrating and creating culture. Its scientific and educational activities significantly contribute to the development of the region.

Currently LUT employs over 1100 staff, including over 560 academic teachers, and over 7000 students study in the university at six faculties: Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Faculty of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Fundamentals of Technology and Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

The number of incoming and outgoing students, employees and graduates is approx. 800 people yearly and is systematically increasing. The cooperation covers over 50 countries from EU and non-EU.

University of Porto (Portugal)

Founded in 1911, UPORTO is one of the largest higher education and research institutions in Portugal with 31.309 students (19% international, including mobility), 2.436 academics & researchers and 1.576 administrative staff. It is one of the best-positioned PT HEI in national and international rankings: Times Higher Education 2018 (401-500); QS 2018/19 (328); Leiden 2018 (145); NTU 2018 (218).

It has 14 Faculties, 1 Business School and 60 Research Units located in 3 campuses within Porto. UPORTO is the leading producer of science in Portugal, responsible for 24,8% of the scientific production in PT. Ensuring high-quality in training, education and research is of paramount importance to UPORTO, together with its strong commitment towards society.

It has been consolidating its social responsibility through the promotion of volunteering projects, the intensification of the interaction with several local/regional associations in the organisation of cultural, social and artistic activities. As a truly international University, with 5.918 international students from around 100 nationalities, internationalisation is one of UPORTO’s strategic pillars and objectives, allowing the development of existing alliances, as well as the establishment of innovative cooperation actions with institutions from all over the world (~2200 active agreements).

European Disability Forum (EDF)

The European Disability Forum (EDF) is the European umbrella organisation defending the interests and rights of 80 million persons with disabilities in Europe. EDF counts with more than 100 members representing 35 countries and all categories of people with disabilities. The members are national disabled people organisations and European organisations representing persons with disabilities or for persons with disabilities.

To ensure that the voices of young people with disabilities are properly answered and heard, in 2001 EDF established a Youth Committee and a wider youth network.

The committee is composed of eight young people with disabilities from different geographical region representing all types of disabilities: The youth committee is involved and partners with the important youth organisations within the youth movement such as the European Youth Forum, and the Erasmus Students Network. The Committee and the network are following and giving input in all agenda points of the European Union (EU)S that are linked to youth.

University of Murcia (Spain)

The University of Murcia (south-eastern Spain) is a one-hundred-year-old institution that traces its origins to the 13th century. UMU is a public comprehensive university and a reference center for teaching and research in the Mediterranean coast, teaching around 32.500 students in 5 Campuses.

The University has around 2,600 lecturers, and 1,200 administration and service staff. UMU offers 53 Degree programmes, 71 Master’s Degree programmes and 35 Doctoral programmes (with 337 Research Groups and 5 University Research Institutes), some of which provide bilingual lectures in English and the possibility to obtain a dual degree with partner universities in Europe and Latin America.

At international level, the University of Murcia has signed agreements with over 900 universities around the world. With more than 25 years of experience, both the International Office and the Research Office OPERUM are very active and have extensive experience in hosting European and international cooperation and research projects and promoting research excellence.

Autonomous University of Madrid

The Autonomous University of Madrid (Spanish: Universidad Autónoma de Madrid - UAM) is a public university established in 1968. Throughout its history, UAM has been one of Spain’s most prominent higher education institutions.

UAM has the following Faculties/Schools: Science, Economics and Business Studies, Law, Art and Philosophy, Medicine, Psychology, Teachers ́ Training and Education, an Engineering School for Computer Science and several affiliated centres, offering a wide range of studies in humanities and scientific and technical fields.

At the moment it educates more than 30,000 students and employs 3,100 professors and nearly 1,000 researchers. The support and development of high-quality research have been among its objectives, and it has been rewarded with international recognition. These achievements have been attained thanks to its highly valued research teams and research institutes.

The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) boasts a large experience in the management of international mobility, educational and research programs in the framework of the Lifelong Learning Programme, the VII Framework Programm for Research, and EuropeAid.

University of Seville

The University of Seville is a ’Public Law' institution, founded in 1505 and the second biggest Spanish university by its number of students. Its academic offer includes more than 78 degrees in Bio-sanitary, Scientific, Technological, Humanistic and Social areas of study; 86 Doctorate programs, 86 official Master degrees and other 150 Masters, Expert and Advanced training courses endorsed by the University of Seville. In addition to this educational offer, the University holds academic and exchange partnerships with 850 institutions throughout the world. More than two thousand incoming and outgoing exchange students are monitored every year.

Research excellence is facilitated by a series of highly advanced services, complemented by important national centers such as the Research Institute, the Centre for Technology and Innovation, the National Accelerator Institute, and the Seville Institute of Biomedicine. Over 470 scientific teams of the University work on research projects and almost 40 patents were registered last year.
